Amy k cummins
Amy Cummins is an Oklahoma born and Texas raised artist with a Native American and Irish heritage. She is a self-taught artist that began painting to tell stories about her past trauma, her law enforcement career, and raising a child that will never have to heal from his past. Her art style is described as whimsically romantic and thought provoking. She tends to start her works with mark making, texture, words, and shapes to mentally prepare to work as well as take up some white space. Amy will consistently challenge herself to try new techniques and styles to become a better artist. She believes that the eyes can move across the canvas and make their own interpretation of what she is trying to say with the paint and various brush strokes. It’s a way to step into a mental space of serenity and hope for better times to come. Every piece of work Amy produces is started as a deeper meaning for her as well as for those she paints for. When she is in her studio, time seizes to exist because her focus is solely on the task at hand. Amy’s only struggle is letting go of the works that she has fallen in love with, only to give over to a trusted and deserving admirer. She is the owner of Houston based art gallery called “Gallery Skye”, a strong victims advocate, involved in local theatre’, motivational speaker and a friend to many. She is the perpetual optimist; when life gives her lemons, she will always make lemonade.
