die hard is a christmas movie

The 2021 City Lights Parade organizers decided to reconfigure the format of the annual parade in the attempt to allow for social distancing. The parade floats were stationary and the public walked around (or drove around) to enjoy the creations. This was hands-down the most fun the 9th Street team has had of any previous City Lights Parade!

Bigger Than Ever!!

Because we were not limited by the height constraints of a mobile parade (i.e. power lines and street lights), we were able to erect a 16ft high Nakatomi plaza!

Caution tape, flashing red and blue lights, and tropical California inspired landscaping framed the scene. A large black helicopter hovered over the emergency staging area, while another helicopter high in the air circled the top of the building. Attendees of the Nakatomi Corporate Christmas Party could be seen through the windows of the 30th and 31st floors, just below a giant fire plume explosion! John McClane repelled down the facade of the building and Hans Gruber was suspended in mid-plummet.

Attendees got to pose in two different interactive photo stations, and a small (yet persistent) reporter, “Richard Thornburg” from KFLW-TV News 14, shoved a microphone in bystanders' faces and demanded an answer to the question, “IS Die Hard a Christmas Movie? Yes or No?!?”

Public response was extremely enthusiastic and we enjoyed shout-outs from a variety of media sources for weeks afterward. (like this!)

This project would not have been possible without the talent, generosity, and dedication of our Artist Friend Family. Many Many thanks to everyone who jumped in to make this dream a reality.
