Lacy Jo Burgess-Cady

My name is Lacy Jo Burgess-Cady. I am an artist from Norman, Oklahoma, working mainly in mixed media and fiber art. I like to explore color and texture in my artwork. I am inspired by the colors and textures you find in the natural world; this is my starting point, and then I like to explore what my materials can accomplish to push those elements even further. Recently I have been exploring ways to incorporate all of my media into a cohesive piece that highlights and celebrates the material. Afternoon Stroll is one of the first pieces I have incorporated embroidery on netting to give the textural feel of the fiber to the painting and collage. I have also been pushing my usage of water media. I enjoy their responsiveness but also love the surprise that comes with working in this media. The resulting flow and movement are precisely what I was hoping for to add movement and luminosity to my work. I am also working to control the hard and soft edges in my painting and collage to see how organic I can make my piece feel.
