Los Muertos 2018
a focus on the altars
Los Muertos is a joint production between the friends of 9th Street Studios and Potencia Projects. In 2018 we knew we needed to direct our focus to the altar area. Local Artist Selena Mize was commissioned to create incredible faux stained glass features for the space. AmbeR Day Scott and Daniel Juarez went to the local treatment center to lead art making activities with the clients that contributed to the new entryway in to the Altar area. The Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture provided an arts grant to fund the visual and performing artists. Leading up to the event, 9th Street hosted the “Anatomy of an Ofrenda” workshop, lead by Claudia Montoya, PhD and Heidi Hakimi Hood, PhD, in which the public was invited to learn about the history and traditions of Dia de Los Muertos while enjoying traditional foods and crafts.
Largely due to these preliminary public outreach activities, the community response was HUGE. we were blessed beyond measure.
