Los Muertos 2019

More education about tradition…

Los Muertos is a joint production between the friends of 9th Street Studios and Potencia Projects. Each year we have connected with additional community partners, and worked with local artists to create new visual features.

This year we hosted two public workshops prior to the event. The ever popular“anatomy of an ofrenda” workshop had even greater attendeance and participation than the previous year.

We also hosted a public Mexican Folk Art appreciation class and Cartoneria Animal workshop. We asked the public to create largescale papier mache creatures , inspired by the work of a specific Mexican Artist. The reception was wonderful and many people have already stated their intentions to participate next year.

In addition, we partnered with local educators to create an activity and educational publication that was distributed to every 4th and 5th grade class in the region.

The new feature added to the 2019 festival was the Procession to the Altars. This was an incredibly powerful experience to share with the community.
