Playing Outside the Lines: Scenes by Ronald Hamer
Ronald Hamer’s distinct style of painting and caricature is influence by cartoonists Dave Breger and Joe Kubert, and captures moments of everyday life. Playing Outside the Lines is a collection of whimsical paintings depicting joyful outdoor gatherings, outdoor hobbies, and outdoor play.
As a commuter, Ronald Hamer has a special awareness of the faces and places he sees while he travels by bus or bicycle. He always has a sketchbook ready for the moments when inspiration will strike.
His sketches explore solutions to everyday problems, topics of space and technology, current events, and day-to-day living. The mix of pictures, symbols, and narrative create a mesmerizing glimpse into Ronald’s stream of consciousness through his unedited chronological flow of ideas. Some of the sketches eventually become paintings, and some of them are material for future ambitions.
Visitors of the Playing Outside the Lines exhibition have been mesmerized and delighted by Ronald’s sketchbooks and a display of “in progress” paintings that demonstrate his process.
